Pork Free Mousse Truffee Recalled for Contamination

Huntington, NY (SafetyAlerts) - Hannelore Gourmet Foods
Ltd. is recalling approximately 17,600 lbs
pounds of mousse truffee that may be contaminated with Listeria monocylogenes.
The contamination was reported to the
Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental
Hygiene which was investigating several reports of illnesses. At this point however,
there have been no definitive connection between those illnesses and the recalled product.
The recall mousse truffee is
D'ARTAGNAN PORK FREE MOUSSE TRUFEE and was sold in 8 ounce packages nationwide, Canada, catalog sales, and possibly on the
Consumers can identify the recalled
packages by the number P9678 inside the USDA seal of inspection and the date code through Feb 28 00 stamped on the back.
Listeria can cause high fever, severe
headaches, neck stiffness, nausea and possibly fatal infections in individuals with
weakened immune systems such as the elderly. It may also cause still births and
miscarriages in pregnant women.
