Stop & Shop Supermarket Recalls Ground Beef, Beef Patties and Ground Veal in Connecticut

MANCHESTER, NH (SafetyAlerts) - The Stop & Shop Supermarket located at 286 Broad Street in Manchester, Connecticut is recalling approximately 600 pounds of ground beef, beef Patties and ground veal because the product may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.

The contaminated meats were found through sampling by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health.  Consumers are urged to check their freezers for the meats which have a "sell by" August 25.  The recalled meats should be returned to the store or disposed of.

Escherichia coli O157:H7 is an emerging cause of foodborne illness. An estimated 10,000 to 20,000 cases of infection occur in the United States each year. Infection often leads to bloody diarrhea, and occasionally to kidney failure.
