Small Amount of Kroger Fresh Ground Beef Recalled in Ohio For E.Coli

Nelsonville, OH (SafetyAlerts) - The Kroger Store (#529) located in Nelsonville, OH is recalling 14 pounds of their fresh ground beef because the product may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.

The recalled ground beef was produced on October 18, 1999 and sold between 8:00 AM and Noon the same day.  The packages bear the date of 10-18-99 printed on the label.

The recall is in response to a positive E. coli O157:H7 monitoring sample of ground beef, collected by the USDA, Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), as part of the FSIS microbiological monitoring program.

Escherichia coli O157:H7 is an emerging cause of foodborne illness. An estimated 10,000 to 20,000 cases of infection occur in the United States each year. Infection often leads to bloody diarrhea, and occasionally to kidney failure.
