Small Amount of Kroger Fresh Ground Beef Recalled
in Ohio For E.Coli
Nelsonville, OH (SafetyAlerts) - The Kroger Store (#529)
located in Nelsonville, OH is recalling 14 pounds of their fresh ground beef because the
product may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
The recalled ground beef was produced on October
18, 1999 and sold between 8:00 AM and Noon the same day. The packages bear the date
of 10-18-99 printed on the label.
The recall is in response to a positive E. coli
O157:H7 monitoring sample of ground beef, collected by the USDA, Food Safety and
Inspection Service (FSIS), as part of the FSIS microbiological monitoring program.
Escherichia coli O157:H7 is an emerging cause of
foodborne illness. An estimated 10,000 to 20,000 cases of infection occur in the United
States each year. Infection often leads to bloody diarrhea, and occasionally to kidney
