10-Pound Bulk Packages of "Gold Medal Brand Smoked Sausage" Recalled

Wichita, KS (SafetyAlerts) - Farmland Foods, Inc.  today is recalling approximately 15,000 pounds of their "Gold Medal Brand Smoked Sausage" distributed in 10-pound bulk packages because the product may be contaminated with hard plastic particles, a report issued by the Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) said.

The recalled "Gold Medal Brand Smoked Sausage" was produced on October 4 and packed October 4 and 5, 1999.  The label bears the establishment #717W in the USDA mark of inspection.  The recalled product was distributed to wholesalers in Washington State.

Farmland Foods noticed the particles of plastic during dicing operations and notified the Food Safety and Inspection Service on November 17, 1999, and voluntarily recalled the product.

Although no press release was issued the firm has notified its customers verbally and will follow-up with letters.
