Foods Plus Store in Indiana Recalls
Contaminated Ground Beef
Columbus, IN (SafetyAlerts) - The Foods Plus Store located
at 1343 N. National Road in Columbus, IN is recalling 550 pounds of their regular Ground
Beef in response to a positive E. coli O157:H7 test.
A sample of the ground beef, collected by the
USDA, Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) during routine monitoring was found to be
contaminated with E. Coli.
The recalled ground beef is marked with the
"Sell by" Aug 2 date. Consumers are urged to check their freezers for
packages of this meat. The recalled beef should not be consumed but should be
returned to the store or disposed of.
Escherichia coli O157:H7 is an emerging cause of
foodborne illness. An estimated 10,000 to 20,000 cases of infection occur in the United
States each year. Infection often leads to bloody diarrhea, and occasionally to kidney
