Buena Vita Inc., Recalls "7020" - "Cooked Italian Style Meatballs"

Product sold for "Institutional Use Only"

Bridgeton, NJ (SafetyAlerts) - The U.S. Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) today announced the voluntary recall of approximately 17,560 pounds of Cooked Italian Style Meatballs, produced by Buena Vita Incorporated of Bridgeton, New Jersey.  According to FSIS, the meatballs are being recalled because of chemical adulteration (chlorfenvinphos) which was discovered through routine monitoring.   Buena Vita, Incorporated  commenced the voluntary recall immediately upon being notified of the problem.

The product is described as: "7020" - "Cooked Italian Style Meatballs" - "For Institutional Use Only".   The product was distributed nationwide and sold in 10-pound boxes, each containing two 5-pound bags.

No press release was issued by the company.   The company has contacted customers by telephone and will follow-up by letter.

FSIS has classified this recall as a Class II recall, and has directed the recall to the consumer level - (retail sandwich shops).
