Some H-E-B Food and Drug Stores Recall Turkey Spread for Listeria

San Antonio, TX (SafetyAlerts) - The H.E.Butt Grocery Company has today recalled one code date of Turkey Spread because routine testing conducted by the company showed the presence of listeria monocytogenes in a sample.

The recalled spread was sold at a limited number of H-E-B Food and Drug store delicatessens between Thursday, Feb 10 and Tuesday, Feb 15. Only 480 16oz containers are affected by this recall.  A list of stores is provided at the end of this article.

To date there have been no reported illnesses.  Only the Turkey Spread sold at deli refrigerated cases, in 16 oz. packages, bearing the UPC Code 41220866564 and the Sell By Date of “FEB 28 00” are affected by this recall. No other code dates are affected .

H-E-B requests that consumers do not consume this product.  It should be returned to the store for a full refund.

“We want to assure our customers that all affected product has been removed from store cases. Only 480 containers are affected state-wide, and we believe a majority of the containers have been pulled from the shelves prior to sale. Nevertheless, it is extremely important that if any customer has this product in their possession, that they return it unopened to any H-E-B store as soon as possible,” said Mike De La Garza, Vice President of Public Affairs and Corporate Communications for H-E-B.
