June 19, 2002De Choix Specialty Foods Has Recalled L'or Des
Domes Au Lait Brand St. Nectaire Cheese
Woodside, NY (SafetyAlerts)
- The Food and Drug Administration said that De Choix Specialty Foods has
recalled 20 cases each containing 3 wheels of l'or des Domes au lait brand
St . Nectaire semi soft cheese because it has the potential to be
contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause
serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly
people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals
may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache,
stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause
miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The semi soft cheese was imported from France and distributed in paper
wrapped wheels each approx. 4 lbs. The recalled cheese has a production date
of 14/04/02 (April 14, 2002) and bears Lot # 0004114.
The semi soft cheese was distributed to restaurants, gourmet shops and
distributors located in New York, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio and
California.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
This recall is a result of routine sampling done by the FDA which revealed
that the product contained Listeria monocytogenes.
Distribution of this product has been suspended while the company continues
their investigation as to the source of the problem.
Consumers who have purchased l'or des Domes brand St Nectaire cheese are
urged to return them to De Choix Specialty Foods for a full refund of the
purchase price. Consumers with questions may contact Luis Rivera at
718-507-8080.
