Texas Firm Has Recalled Refried Beans With Chorizo From Mexico

Laredo, TX (SafetyAlerts) - U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said that Vilore Foods Co. has recalled an undetermined amount of canned refried beans with chorizo sausage that are improperly labeled as a meat product. The refried beans do not contain 3 percent meat, which is required for a product to be labeled as a meat product.

The products being recalled are 15.2 oz. cans of "La Sierra Authentica Cocina Mexicana REFRIED BEANS with Chorizo." The products were distributed to retail stores nationwide.

"These products are mislabeled," said Dr. Garry L. McKee, FSIS administrator. "Consumers who have concerns about this product should return it to the point of purchase."

FSIS has received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a physician.

Consumers and media with questions about the recall may contact Jose Luis Murillo, Jr., operations manager, at (956) 726-3633
