Barbara Lotts Cakes Has Recalled pound
The Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) said that Barbara Lotts Cakes has recalled the
following types of pound cakes: Lemon, Butter, Sour Cream, Cream Cheese,
Pineapple, Banana, Sock it to Me, Kentucky, because it may contain
undeclared food allergens. People who have an allergy or sensitivity to
nuts, eggs, FD&C Yellow #5 run the risk of serious or life threatening
allergic reaction if they consume these products.
Products were distributed in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. They were
delivered by delivery trucks to Bi Lo Food Chain, Premier Foods, Piggly
Wiggly, Food Lion.
Products are packed in a plastic base and covered with a rigid plastic dome
with a Barbara Lotts Cakes label on them. They will have a number in the top
left hand corner which will be 40, 41, 42.
To date no illnesses have been reported.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the products
containing the allergens did not declare them. A subsequent investigation
indicated the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's
production and packaging processes.
Consumers can return product for a full refund to the store where they
