The Milk Run Has Recalled Premium Corned Beef

East Durham, NY (SafetyAlerts) - The Milk Run of East Durham, NY is recalling all sliced PREMIUM CORNED BEEF because they have the potential to be contaminated with LISTERIA MONOCYTOGENES, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy persons may suffer only short term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled sliced PREMIUM CORNED BEEF was sold from. the deli section of The Milk Run Convenience Store, 3552 Rt. 145 East Durham, NY 12423.

A sample of sliced PREMIUM CORNED BEEF obtained by NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors at The Milk Run on October 15,2002 was analyzed and found to be positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
Consumers that have purchased sliced PREMIUM CORNED BEEF from the deli at The Milk Run Convenience Store, are urged not to consume it, but to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund
