Buick Has Recalled the 2002, 2003 Rendezvous

(SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released the following information.


Make : BUICK Model : RENDEZVOUS Year : 2002, 2003

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 03V211000

Component: LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE:LOCK

Potential Number Of Units Affected : 107383

Summary:
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE LIFTGATE STRUCTURE MAY FRACTURE AROUND THE LATCH REINFORCEMENT IN THE EVENT OF A SEVERE, REAR COLLISION.

Consequence:
THE LIFTGATE MAY SEPARATE FROM THE LATCH ASSEMBLY AND OPEN. AN OCCUPANT COULD BE EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE RESULTING IN INCREASED RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY.

Remedy:
GM HAS NOT YET PROVIDED A REMEDY FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. DEALERS AND CUSTOMERS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL DURING AUGUST 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT BUICK.
