Ford Has Recalled the 1999-2000 Lincoln Continental
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released the
Models: Lincoln Continental Year: 1999-2000
Number Potentially Involved: 43,459
Dates of Manufacture: May 1998 - February 2002
Problem: On certain passenger vehicles, the driver and/or passenger side air
bag could deploy as a result of underbody impacts near the sensors, such as
those occurring from pieces of gravel or debris thrown from the wheels while
the vehicle is being operated at moderate to high speed or being
Remedy: Dealers will recalibrate the air bag sensors. The manufacturer has
reported that owner notification began March 31, 2003. This action is deemed
a safety improvement campaign and is not being conducted under the Safety
Act. The company has informed NHTSA that it will provide the modifications
described above free of charge. Owners may contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673.
