AFX Has Recalled all years of the FX-3 Motorcycle Helmet
(SafetyAlerts)
- The
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released the
following information.
Make : AFX Model : FX-3 Build Dates : All Years
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 03E007000 Recall Date : JAN 29, 2003
Component: EQUIPMENT:MOTORCYCLE:HELMETS
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 30478
Summary:
MODEL FX-3 MOTORCYCLE HELMETS MANUFACTURED PRIOR TO APRIL 2002. THE CHIN
STRAP WAS SEWN WITH ONE BAR TACK
AS APPOSED TO TWO BAR TACKS. THIS DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF
FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY
STANDARD NO. 218, "MOTORCYCLE HELMETS."
Consequence:
IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE HELMET MAY NOT ADEQUATELY PROTECT THE WEARER
FROM SERIOUS INJURY OR POSSIBLE
DEATH.
Remedy:
AFX HAS NOTIFIED ITS DEALERS AND WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED HELMETS WITH A
100% COMPLIANT HELMET FREE OF
CHARGE. NOTIFICATION TO KNOWN CUSTOMERS IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING FEBRUARY
2003. OWNERS WHO DO NOT
RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT AFX AT
