Volvo Has Recalled the 1996 model 854, 855
- Volvo Has Recalled the 1996 model 854, 855 because of a potential
problem with the seat heaters.
Number of Units Affected: 65000
Manufactured: 06/1995 - 05/1996
ON SOME SEDANS AND STATION WAGONS EQUIPPED WITH SEAT HEATERS, IT IS POSSIBLE
THAT EXCESSIVE COMPRESSION OF THE SEAT CUSHION COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE
ELECTRICAL WIRING OF THE SEAT HEATER.
IF THIS OCCURS, THE DAMAGE COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT, INCREASING THE
LIKELIHOOD OF A FIRE.
DEALERS WILL DISCONNECT THE EXISTING WIRES AND INSTALL A NEW ELECTRONIC
THERMOSTAT AND CABLE HARNESS. VOLVO HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER
NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO
AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE
FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT VOLVO AT 1-800-458-1552.
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 02V314000
Regarding Auto Recalls
Frequently SafetyAlerts will list
auto recalls before
your dealer will know about them. If you have a vehicle
affected by one of these posted recalls be sure and
write down the NHTSA
CAMPAIGN ID Number.
If your dealer doesn't know about the recall when you
check, ask them how they are notified of recalls and
when the next update is due.
