BMW Has Recalled the 1999 BMW 323I , 328I
- BMW Has Recalled the 1999 BMW 323I , 328I because of air bag
Number of Units Affected: 20500
Manufactured: 04/1999 - 08/1999
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE SIDE AIR BAG SYSTEM COULD DEPLOY IN
CERTAIN NON-CRASH IMPACTS, SUCH AS WHEN CONTACTING LARGE POTHOLES OR CURBS
AT SUBSTANTIAL SPEEDS.
THIS COULD CAUSE THE SIDE AIR BAG AND HEAD PROTECTION SYSTEM TO DEPLOY
WITHOUT AN ACTUAL SIDE CRASH OR IMPACT SEVERE ENOUGH TO CAUSE SIGNIFICANT
VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. UNEXPECTED DEPLOYMENT OF THE SIDE AIR BAG
COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY IF THE OCCUPANT'S HEAD IS RESTING NEAR THE SIDE
DEALERS WILL RECALIBRATE THE CENTRAL AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE TO REDUCE THE
POSSIBILITY OF SUCH A NON-CRASH DEPLOYMENT. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED
TO BEGIN DURING SEPTEMBER 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN
AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE
REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-331-1117.

Regarding Auto Recalls
Frequently SafetyAlerts will list
auto recalls before
your dealer will know about them. If you have a vehicle
affected by one of these posted recalls be sure and
write down the NHTSA
CAMPAIGN ID Number.
If your dealer doesn't know about the recall when you
check, ask them how they are notified of recalls and
when the next update is due.
Did you know?
During 2001 there were over
1575 products recalled in the United
