DaimlerChrysler Has Recalled the PT Cruiser

(SafetyAlerts) -  DaimlerChrysler AG on Friday recalled more than 450,000 of its popular, retro-styled PT Cruisers because of a fuel pump leak.

Number Potentially Involved: 345,436

Dates of Manufacture: October 1999 – June 2002

Defect: On certain passenger vehicles, the fuel pump module mounting flange could leak fuel if the vehicle is involved in a rollover crash. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will install a secondary seal over the fuel pump module. The manufacturer reported that owner notification began on Aug. 12, 2002. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact DaimlerChrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

Important Note Regarding Auto Recalls
Frequently SafetyAlerts will list auto recalls before
your dealer will know about them. If you have a vehicle
affected by one of these posted recalls be sure and
write down the NHTSA
CAMPAIGN ID Number.
If your dealer doesn't know about the recall when you
check, ask them how they are notified of recalls and
when the next update is due.
