BMW Has Recalled Some 7-Series Cars
German carmaker BMW AG Has recalled
several thousand of its new luxury 7-series cars worldwide to check for
potential fuel-pump and valve problems.
Number of Units Affected: 8412
Manufactured: 10/2020 - 05/0200
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP RUNS AT A
ROTATIONAL SPEED THAT COULD RESULT IN REDUCED LUBRICATION OF ITS INTERNAL
COMPONENTS. OVER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, WEAR-INDUCED INTERNAL DAMAGE TO
THE FUEL PUMP COULD RESULT IN INSUFFICIENT FUEL SUPPLY TO THE ENGINE WHEN
THE FUEL TANK CONTAINS ONE-THIRD OR LESS OF ITS MAXIMUM FUEL CAPACITY.
IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR, THE ENGINE COULD STALL AND NOT BE RESTARTED UNTIL
MORE FUEL WAS ADDED TO THE FUEL TANK. THIS COULD OCCUR EVEN THOUGH THE FUEL
GAUGE INDICATED THAT FUEL STILL REMAINED IN THE TANK.
DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL SYSTEM. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS
EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JUNE 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN
AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE
REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-332-4269.
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 02V150000.
Regarding Auto Recalls
Frequently SafetyAlerts will list
auto recalls before
your dealer will know about them. If you have a vehicle
affected by one of these posted recalls be sure and
write down the NHTSA
CAMPAIGN ID Number.
If your dealer doesn't know about the recall when you
check, ask them how they are notified of recalls and
when the next update is due.
Did you know?
During 2001 there were over
1575 products recalled in the United
