Levi Strauss Voluntarily Recalls Infant & Toddler Metal Inseam Snap Products

San Francisco, CA (SafetyAlerts) - Levi Strauss & Co. is voluntarily recalling several Levi’s® brand boys’ and girls’ products and asking consumers who have purchased the products to return them for a full refund.  The products include 12- to 24-month Infant   Metal Inseam Snap Jeans as well as 12- to 24-month and 2T to 4T Koveralls and Shortalls with metal inseam snaps.

Although no injuries involving these products have been reported, it has come to Levi Strauss & Co.’s attention that in a few instances some parts from the metal inseam snaps have separated from the garment, which could pose a potential choking risk for young children.

The voluntary recall involves 13 different products: two styles of Infant Metal Inseam Snap Jeans, seven styles of Koveralls and four styles of Shortalls.  These products were manufactured from February 1999 to March 2001 and shipped to retail stores from March 1999 to March 2001.  They  may be identified by their unique product codes, which are located on the back of the product “care label” where laundering instructions also are provided.

Consumers should match the first five digits of each product’s nine-digit product code as follows:

Boys':

  • Levi’s® Boys’ 12- to 24-month Infant Inseam Snap Jeans: 29030
  • Levi’s® Boys’ 12- to 24-month Infant Inseam Snap Koverall: 29098

  • Levi’s® Boys’ 2T to 4T Inseam Snap Koverall: 22033
  • Levi’s® Boys’ 2T to 4T Inseam Snap Shortall: 22095

Girls':

  • Levi’s® Girls’ 12- to 24-month Infant Inseam Snap Jeans: 31870
  • Levi’s® Girls’ 12- to 24-month Infant Inseam Snap Koverall: 38824
  • Levi’s® Girls’ 12- to 24-month Infant Inseam Snap “Kangaroo” Koverall: 38845

  • Levi’s® Girls’ 2T to 4T Inseam Snap Koverall: 38624
  • Levi’s® Girls’ 2T to 4T Inseam Snap Shortall: 39670

The boys’ and girls’ 12- to 24-month Infant Metal Inseam Snap Jeans are the only products in this voluntary recall that may still be in stock at retail stores.  Efforts are currently under way to immediately remove those products from retail shelves.

Consumers who have any of these products should immediately take the garment away from children and contact Levi Strauss & Co. at 1-800-USA-LEVI (1-800-872-5384) for assistance in determining if a product is part of this voluntary recall and details on returning the product – postage paid – to receive a full refund.

Two consumers recently reported separation problems with metal inseam snaps on Levi's® Infant Metal Inseam Snap Jeans.  While both reports involved the same product code, as a precaution Levi Strauss & Co. has voluntarily decided to ask for the return of the 13 Levi's® brand products that use this particular metal snap.

A total of approximately 349,000 products with the potentially faulty snaps were shipped to retailers from March 1999 to March 2001.
