Ford Motor Company- Aerostar Minivan Recall

Ford Motor Company
from a press release

Models:
Ford Aerostar: Years: 1992-1997

Number Involved: Approximately 887,000
Defect: On certain minivans, a possible faulty accessory power circuit could overheat causing the engine to overheat, smoke and fire. There may also be the potential that some vehicles could have a short-circuit problem with the fuel pump that could cause possible loss of power, smoke, and fire in the passenger compartment.

Remedy: Vehicle should be inspected by an authorized dealer. Ford believes only a small number of these vehicles will require repair, which will be done at no charge to the customer

NHTSA said manufacturers are required to mail a recall notice to all purchasers, owners and dealers when a safety defect or noncompliance with federal safety standards is found. The agency urges owners to wait until they receive notification from the manufacturer before contacting their dealers to schedule the repair work. Not all vehicles of a particular make and model may be subject to the recall.
