Saab Recalls 5,132 9-3 Models

NORCROSS, Ga (SafetyAlerts) - Saab Cars USA, lnc., importer of Saab automobiles, today announced a voluntary recall of 5,132 early 1999 Saab 9-3 Coupes and Convenibles with manual front-seat adjustment for replacement of a plastic sleeve and a cable in the seat mechanism.

On a limited number of cars, Saab has found that failure of the "Easy Entry" cable in the front driver and passenger seats can cause the seat fore/aft adjustable mechanism to become unlocked. No accidents or injuries have been reported. The cable and plastic sleeve will be replaced with a redesigned cable assembly.

U.S. owners of affected Saab 9-3 cars will be notified by mail beginning in October 1999, and will be asked to schedule a free installation at an authorized Saab dealership at their convenience.
