AP Clarifies Vioxx Story
CHICAGO (AP) — In a March 24 story about meningitis being a rare potential
side effect of Vioxx, The Associated Press reported that the Food and Drug
Administration has required Merck to add the disease to the list of possible
side effects included on the painkiller's product label and package insert.
The story did not make clear that the information has already been included
on the product label and package insert for some time. Merck spokeswoman
Chris Fanelle said the company made the change in 2000.
