Statement by the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company Regarding Oxycontin

(SafetyAlerts) - Effective immediately, the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company will no longer stock the product Oxycontin. The decision comes after the number of robberies in drug stores throughout the region has continued to escalate.

Stop & Shop is committed to providing for the needs of our customers, but not at the expense of the safety of our customers and associates.

Stop & Shop Pharmacists will contact customers who are taking Oxycontin for chronic conditions and advise them of the new policy. While the company will not maintain a stock of Oxycontin, certain prescription orders may be obtained on behalf of customers through the wholesaler. Customers who have questions regarding an Oxycontin prescription or alternative therapies should speak directly to their Stop & Shop Pharmacist.

Stop & Shop operates 226 pharmacies throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island.
