New York COMMISSIONER ANNOUNCES WARNING FOR UNDECLARED SULFITES IN MAYA RAISINS

(SafetyAlerts) -  New York State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers today warned asthmatics and other sulfite sensitive consumers to avoid eating "Maya Golden Risin," packed by Maya Oversees Foods, Inc., 56-13 56th Drive, Maspeth, New York 11378. Routine sampling by food inspectors for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets revealed the product contained high levels of sulfites, which were not declared on the label.

The product packaged in uncoded ½ pound plastic bags with yellow, black and white labels were distributed in the New York metropolitan area.

Sulfites can cause deadly reactions in asthmatics and others suffering sulfite allergies.

The product should be returned to the distributor.
