How/When Discovered: Product sampled from a retail store in Tallahassee, Fla., on October 13, 1998, tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, prompting initial recall on October 22, 1998. (Initially recalled were various beef franks, turkey-pork-beef franks, and chicken hot dogs listed in the FSIS October 23, 1998, press release) Subsequent FSIS testing of products from other production dates prompted the firm to expand the recall to all hot dog and frank products under the 3 labels from Est. 1415M / P-6655 still in commerce. Testing of other products found 2 items positive for Listeria monocytogenes, resulting in the November 3 addition to the recall of all lunch meat products produced on 2 production dates.
