Kendell Brook Smoked Atlantic Salmon with Cracked Pepper and Garlic Warning

(SafetyAlerts) - New York State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers today warned consumers not to eat certain packages of Kendell Brook Smoked Atlantic Salmon with Cracked Pepper and Garlic due to possible Listeria contamination.

The product comes in 8-ounce vacuum packages with the container code 942022. "Anyone in possession of this product should not eat it".  Instead consumers should throw it out or return it to point of purchase.

The product was distributed by Ducktrap River Fish Farm, Inc. of Belfast Maine. The product was distributed in western New York and possibly elsewhere.

A sample of this product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. The sample was taken by inspectors for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. An investigation is ongoing by Department inspectors to determine the exact distribution of the product.

Listeria is a common organism found in nature. It can cause serious complications for pregnant women, such as stillbirths, and other problems for people with compromised immune systems. It can also cause flu-like symptoms in healthy individuals.

To date, there are no known illnesses associated with this product.
