Blue Ribbon Sable Plates Recalled

Brooklyn, NY (SafetyAlerts) - The Blue Ribbon Smoked Fish Co. has been advised by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets that tests on certain Blue Ribbon Sable Plates, sold between October 25 and October 30,  revealed the presence of the Listeria monocytogenes organism.

Consequently the firm is recalling the product identified by the code 1108.  The lot consisted of total of 25 plates (appx. 65 lbs) and was sold in Metropolitan New York, South West New Jersey, and North New Jersey areas.

A person with listeriosis usually has fever, muscle aches, and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. If infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms such as headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions can occur.  Listeriosis can be life threatening to the elderly and others with weakened immune systems.

Infected pregnant women may experience only a mild, flu-like illness; however, infection during pregnancy can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth.

Consumers are advised not to consume the product, and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Further questions may be directed to The Blue Ribbon Smoked Fish Co. (718) 251-9100
