Fresh Express Farms Fat Free and Low Fat Caesar Salad Kits Recalled

West, Salinas, CA (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today reported that Fresh Express Farms is recalling certain Fat Free Caesar Salad Kits and Low Fat Caesar Salad Kits because the egg-free salad dressing component of the kit was unintentionally replaced with a Caesar Light Dressing which contains egg yolks. However, the label of the kit does not declare eggs.

The Fat Free Caesar Salad Kit was sold in 7.5 ounce plastic bags and the Low Fat Caesar Salad Kit was sold in 10 ounce plastic bags.  Both products bear the codes of S229A or S229B.

This Class I recall was initiated by the company August 18, 1999 by telephone.  This is the first notice the FDA has issued to the general public of the recall.  This recall is considered complete by the FDA.

1,094 cases were distributed in Washington state, Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Texas, Iowa, Kansas, California, Oklahoma, Hawaii and Alaska.  The firm estimates none remains on the market.
