Great Union Wholesale, Inc. Prawn Crackers Recalled

Houston, TX (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today reported that Great Union Wholesale, Inc. is recalling it's "Prawn Crackers (Color) Banh Phong Tom Mau" because the product contains the unapproved color additives Ponceau 4R and azorubine. In addition it contains the uncertified colors sunset yellow FCF (certifiable as FD&C Yellow No. 6), brilliant blue FCF (certifiable as FD&C Blue No. 1), and tartrazine (certifiable as FD&C Yellow No. 5).

Over 500, 8 ounce boxes (packed 60 per case) and 16 ounce boxes (packed 50 per case) were distributed in Texas and Florida. No codes are available for identification.  This recall affects all lots distributed in 1999.

This ongoing  Class II recall was initiated by the company on September 23, 1999 by letter.  This is the first notice the FDA has issued to the general public of the recall.
