Moonstruck Chocolate Has Recalled Toffee Truffle
Portland, OR (SafetyAlerts)
- The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said
Chocolate Co. has recalled their Moonstruck Chocolatier Classic 9 pc.,
Classic 16 pc. and 12 pc. Spring Collection boxes. Each of these boxed
collections contains a single Toffee Truffle with a small flower decoration
appliqué found to contain undeclared egg whites. People who have an allergy
or severe sensitivity to egg whites run the risk of serious or
life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.
The recalled Toffee Truffle can be found in Moonstruck's Classic 9 pc.,
Classic 16 pc., and 12 pc. Spring Collection boxes distributed through
retail stores located in Illinois, Indiana, Connecticut, Oregon, and
California, and nationwide mail-order service. The product will have a "best
enjoyed by date" up through July 19, 2002. Less than fourteen hundred boxed
collections are affected by the recall.
There have been no reported illnesses to date.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that product containing egg
whites (small flower decoration on the Toffee Truffle) was distributed in
packaging that did not reveal the presence of egg whites. Subsequent
investigation indicated a problem with the company's reevaluation process of
outsourced material ingredient contents.
Current packaging of this product has been corrected with the proper
labeling of "contains egg whites." Requests for refunds or replacement
product will be honored.
