Mom's Kandy Kitchen Has Recalled Pre-Packaged Chocolate Covered Candies

Rexburg, ID (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that Mom's Kandy Kitchen, Inc. has recalled pre-boxed milk and dark chocolate Assorted, Nut & Caramel, and Cherry Cordials and solid chocolate novelties because they may contain undeclared peanuts, macadamia nuts, milk, yellow #5 and yellow #6. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts, macadamia nuts, milk, yellow #5 and yellow #6 run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled pre-boxed chocolates were distributed through retail stores and direct delivery in Southeastern Idaho, and mail order nationwide.

The Assorted, Nut & Caramel, and Cherry Cordials come in 2.6 ounce, l/2 lb., 1 lb., 2 lb., 3 lb., and 5 lb. boxes with the Florence's Exquisite Candies logo and/or label. The code is stamped on the bottom of the box. Products coded 02-63 and higher are properly labeled. The novelty chocolate items are in varying size boxes and do not contain a code.

One illness has been reported but not confirmed to date.

The recall was initiated in follow up to an FDA inspection that determined the products containing peanuts, macadamia nuts, milk, yellow #5 and yellow #6 were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of these items.

Consumers who have purchased any of these chocolates are urged to return the item to Mom's Kandy Kitchen, 25 South Center Street, Rexburg, Idaho, or to Florence's Exquisite Candies at 1165 East 17th Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho, for a replacement of the item or items returned.
