Idaho Establishment Has Recalled Canned Soup

Payette, ID (SafetyAlerts) - United States Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service, (FSIS) said that Chiquita Processed Foods, LLC has recalled approximately 6,200 pounds of canned soup that is incorrectly labeled.

The products subject to recall are:

Cans mislabeled as "S&W GARBANZO BEANS" (15.5 ounces on the label), which actually contain 14.5 ounces of "WOLFGANG PUCK’S CHICKEN PARMESAN WITH PASTA HEARTY SOUP." The product contains the package code "978P8/C306" and establishment code "P6166" on top of each can. The product was produced on November 2, 2001, and was distributed to retail establishments in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

Cans mislabeled as "S&W PINTO BEANS" (15 ounces on the label), which actually contain 14.5 ounces of "WOLFGANG PUCK’S GRILLED CHICKEN WITH RICE HEARTY SOUP." The product contains the package code "897P8/C263" and establishment code "P6166" on top of each can. The product was produced on September 20, 2001, and was distributed to retail establishments in Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington.

"We urge consumers to check their cupboards and pantries," said Margaret O’K. Glavin, acting FSIS administrator. "If they find any of the products listed above, consumers should return them to the point of purchase."

A consumer complaint on Jan. 4, 2002 initiated the discovery of the problem.

FSIS has received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a physician.
