Indiana Firm Has Recalled Fresh Pork Tenderloin

Delphi, IN (SafetyAlerts) - U.S. Department of Agriculture?s Food Safety and Inspection Service said that Indiana Packers Corporation has recalled approximately 730 pounds of fresh pork tenderloin because of misbranding, including undeclared allergens (peanut and sesame oils).

Peanut oil is a known allergen. Persons who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanut oil run the risk of possible allergic reactions if they consume this product.

The products being recalled are two-pound packages of "INDIANA KITCHEN, PORK TENDERLOIN, GARLIC FLAVORED." The establishment code "EST. 17564" is inside the USDA seal of inspection. Each package also bears one of the following sell or freeze by dates: "8 08 02," "9 04 02," "10 11 02," or "10 18 02."

The products were produced on July 11, Aug. 7, Sept. 6, Sept. 13 and Sept. 20 and were sent to distributors in Indiana, Kentucky, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. The products were also shipped to Bermuda and Japan.

"We urge consumers, especially those allergic or sensitive to peanut oil, to check to see if they have this product," said Dr. Garry L. McKee, FSIS administrator. "If they find the product listed above, consumers with these allergies should not eat it, but return it to the point of purchase."

The company discovered the problem and notified FSIS.

Consumers and media with questions about the recall may contact Edward Nelson, company president, at (765) 564-7278, or Gary Jacobson, company executive vice president, at (765) 564-7216.
