Del Rio Processing Company Recalls Colored Tortillas

Seattle, WA (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said today that Del Rio Processing Company is recalling certain colored tortillas because they contain undeclared color additives.

There are three separate recalls listed below.

PRODUCT:
a) Yellow Tortillas - Recall Number F-440-1
b) Green Tortillas - Recall Number F-441-1

TORTILLAS PACKED 60 DOZEN PER CORRUGATED CASE. CASE LABELED IN PART "DEL RIO QUALITY MEXICAN PRODUCTS SABOR DEMEXICO

INGREDIENTS Stoneground Corn Masa Flour, Water, Calcium Propionate, Citric acid and a trace of Lime 7 OZ. CORN 60 DOZ. ***".

This is the first public notice of this Class II recall issued by FDA.

CODE: None.

REASON:
a) The yellow tortillas contain undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Red No. 40, and propylparaben.

b) The green tortillas contain undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Blue No. 1, and propylparaben.

MANUFACTURER/RECALLING FIRM:
Del Rio Processing Company, Seattle WA.

RECALL BY:
The recalling firm visited customers on 2/12 through 14/01.  The product was relabeled.  A letter was provided to each customer stating the products did not contain the proper ingredient statement.  The letter provided the undeclared ingredients for each color of tortilla.

FIRM INITIATED RECALL:

*Completed recall: FDA states 'completed recall' indicates the company has removed all affected product from store shelves,  it does not necessarily mean this particular product lot, or codes, have been fully accounted for.

2,819 cases of yellow 15 cases of green

PRODUCT:
Red Tortillas , TORTILLAS PACKED 60 DOZEN PER CORRUGATED CASE. CASE LABELED IN PART "DEL RIO QUALITY MEXICAN PRODUCTS SABOR DEMEXICO.  Recall number: F-442-1

INGREDIENTS: Stoneground Corn Masa Flour, Water, Calcium Propionate, Citric acid and a trace
of Lime 7 OZ. CORN 60 DOZ. ***".

The red tortillas contain undeclared red No. 40 and propylparaben.
