Allergy Alert: Kang Laos with Sour Bamboo Shoots Contain Undeclared Allergen

(SafetyAlerts) - New York State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers today warned sulfite-sensitive individuals and asthmatics to avoid eating Kang Laos with Sour Bamboo Shoots due to undeclared sulfites in the product.

The product from Thailand was sold in uncoded 24-ounce metal capped glass jars at the Vientian Grocery, 1415 N. Clinton Avenue, Rochester, NY 14621. This product was distributed by Food King Inc., 39 Wood Street, West Haven, CT 06516.

Routine sampling by food safety inspectors for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets revealed the product contained high levels of sulfites which were not declared on the label.

Sulfites can cause deadly reactions in asthmatics and other suffering sulfite allergies.
