NY (SafetyAlerts) - Porter Fine
Foods Inc. is recalling cold smoked salmon trimmings because it has the potential to be
contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The products, distributed in New York
and Connecticut, can be identified by a gold and silver, vacuum packed, plastic bag
with plastic inserted labels with the name of La Maree, in quarter-pound,
half-pound and 1-pound sizes. The codes affected include "packed on Apr.
15", "packed on Apr. 16", and "packed on Apr. 17".
Consumption of food contaminated with
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease.
Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis. Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe
headache, neck stiffness, and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and
stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weak immune
systems--infants, the frail or elderly, and persons with chronic disease, with HIV
infection, or taking chemotherapy.
Consumers should return the product to the place
of purchase for a full refund. Questions can be directed to the company at
