'Marshall's Best' Smoked Whitefish Salad Recalled

Brooklyn, NY (SafetyAlerts) - Hommarus/Marshall has announced a recall affecting one lot of its Marshall's Best Smoked 8oz Whitefish Salad. The product may be contaminated with Listeria Monocytegenes.

No illnesses have been reported.

The product was distributed to retail outlets in New York and can be identified by Code Date 01/05/01, Batch #11777.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, pregnant women and individuals with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer short-term symptoms such as fever, headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Consumers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Questions may be directed to the company's consumer relations
