Hommus with Vegetables Recalled for Listeria
Bristol, PA (SafetyAlerts) - New
York State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers today warned consumers not to eat
certain packages of Wakims Foods Hommus with Vegetables due to possible Listeria
The product comes in 8-ounce
plastic containers with the container code JAN 29. Anyone in possession of this product
should not eat it. Instead, consumers should throw it out or return it to point of
The product is manufactured by Wakims Foods, Inc.,
218-R Route 13, Bristol, PA. 19007 which has volunteered to recall this product. To
date, there are no known illnesses associated with this product. A sample of this product tested positive for Listeria
monocytogenes. The sample was taken by inspectors for the New York State Department of
Agriculture and Markets at Shopwell, Inc., 1660 Second Avenue, New York, NY 10028.
Shopwell has removed this product from sale at all of their stores. An investigation is
ongoing by Department inspectors to determine the exact distribution of the product.
Listeria is a common organism found in nature. It
can cause serious complications for pregnant women, such as stillbirths and other problems
