Allergy Alert: Undeclared Milk Protein in Strudel

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (SafetyAlerts) -   Western Waffles Ltd. has announced it is recalling various flavors of strudel due to undeclared whey powder contained in the icing included with the product.

According to a company press release the affected brands distributed in the US are Finast, Morning Fresh Farms, Laura Lynn and Harris Teeter. All companies are voluntarily recalling the following products:

Finast is sold in a 11.5 oz package containing six strudels. Finast product is distributed at Edward's Super Food Stores in New York and New Jersey, Giant Food Stores in Pennsylvania and Martin's Food Markets in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. The four flavors included in this recall are:

  • Finast Strawberry Strudel UPC 41520 10088

  • Finast Apple Cinnamon Strudel UPC 41520 10089

  • Finast Strawberry Cream Cheese Strudel UPC 41520 10068

  • Finast Blueberry Strudel UPC 41520 10078

Morning Fresh Farms is sold in a 11.5 oz package containing six strudels. Morning Fresh product is distributed at Lowe's Foods, Acme, Community Cash Stores, The Fresh Market, Whole Foods Markets and Plus Inc. in District of Columbia, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina and Virginia. The four flavors included in this recall are:

  • Morning Fresh Farms Apple Cinnamon Strudel UPC 71452 20396

  • Morning Fresh Farms Strawberry Strudel UPC 71452 20394

  • Morning Fresh Farms Strawberry & Cream Cheese Strudel UPC 71452 20395

  • Morning Fresh Farms Blueberry Strudel UPC 71452 20397

Laura Lynn is sold in a 11.5 oz package containing six strudels. Laura Lynn product is distributed at Ingles stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. The four flavors included in this recall are:

  • Laura Lynn Blueberry Strudel UPC 86854 02308

  • Laura Lynn Strawberry & Cream Cheese Strudel UPC 86854 02307

  • Laura Lynn Apple Strudel UPC 86854 02309

  • Laura Lynn Strawberry Strudel UPC 86854 02306

Harris Teeter is sold in a 11.5 oz package containing six strudels. Harris Teeter is distributed at Harris Teeter stores in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Florida. The two flavors included in this recall are:

  • Harris Teeter Strawberry Strudel UPC 72036 54016

  • Harris Teeter Apple Cinnamon Strudel UPC 72036 54015

This information is of concern only to those who suffer from allergies to milk protein. Milk proteins can cause an allergic reaction in susceptible persons. The company stated in its press release that there have been no reported illnesses associated with this product in the United States.
