Louis, MO (SafetyAlerts) - Swiss
American, Inc. said today it is recalling cut pieces of Bench Cured Hoop Cheddar and
cut pieces of big block Bench Cured Hoop Cheddar because it has the potential to be
contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The cheese was manufactured by
Wisconsin Hill and Valley Cheese Company of Cashton, Wisconsin. Swiss American Inc.
became the fourth company to recall possibly contaminated cheese products since November
The recalled Bench Cured Hoop Cheddar
was sold in grocery stores in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana,
Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, North
Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. The red-waxed
wedges of yellow cheddar cheese bear the sell-by dates of Aug. 12, 2000, through Feb. 8,
Both cut Bench Cured Hoop Cheddar and
big block Bench Cured Hoop Cheddar come as red waxed wedges of yellow cheddar cheese with
the red and black Bench Cured Hoop Cheddar Cheese label in varied weight packages of
between 10 ounces and 24 ounces with sell-by dates of August 12, 2000, through February 8,
