January 27, 2000Imagine Foods Recalls
Contaminated "Rice Dream Original Enriched" Beverage
Palo Alto, CA (SafetyAlerts) - Imagine Foods, Inc. is
voluntarily recalling certain 32 oz. packages of its "Rice Dream Original
Enriched" beverage product because it may be contaminated with Bacillus cereus.
Bacillus cereus is a spoilage
organism, which may cause diarrhea, nausea and other harmful symptoms. Four consumer
complaints with two illnesses have been reported to date.
The recalled drink product bears the
code "DEC/14/00/A" and a time code ending with /4 ("xx:xx:xx/4") next
to the white pouring cap on the top of the cardboard package. The code "4A12149"
is printed on the bottom of the container.
Approximately 3375 packages, packed
on December 14, 1999 by California Natural Products, were inadvertently distributed
to health food stores and other retailers in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida,
Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Nebraska, Oklahoma,
Tennessee and Texas. The company says it has identified and corrected the condition
that caused the contamination.
Consumers should return products with
the codes in question to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange. No other Imagine
Foods' products are affected by this action.
