Mulsen Trading Co. Recalls 'Pacific Friend' Water Chestnuts

Seattle, WA (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today reported that Mulsen Trading Company, of Seattle, WA - a distributor for Jinhua Canned Food Factory, of Jinhua, China, is recalling Jinhua's 'Pacific Friend Water Chestnuts', sliced and whole, in 8-ounce cans because the product was contained in swollen and leaking cans, and are rusted on the inside.

4,528 cases (24 8-ounce cans) of sliced, and 299 cases of whole water chestnuts were distributed throughout Washington state, Montana, Oregon.

Whole: L71/96 12 15/8241, L71/96 12 19/8241. L71/96 12 30/8241, L71/97 01 03/8241.

This ongoing Class III recall was initiated by Mulsen  by telephone, and by fax dated October 18, 1999.  The recall resulted from sample analysis and follow-up by the Oregon State Department of Agriculture  This is the first public notice issued by the FDA.
