Garden Botanika Recalls 'C' Slices Eye Relief Pads

Redmond, WA (SafetyAlerts) - Garden Botanika Inc. has recalled 600 boxes of its ``C'' Slices Vitamin C Eye Relief eye pads because the pads may be contaminated with bacteria that could cause vision-threatening eye infections.

The product described as orange-and-white boxes, each containing six pairs of eye pads, were distributed nationwide. The recalled products bear the number '1005506009' below the bar code on the back of each box.

Garden Botanika stated no eye infections have been reported but urged consumers to quit using the eye pads and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Routine sampling uncovered three species of bacteria in the eye pads - ENTEROBACTOR gergoviae, BACILLUS species and OCHROHACTRUM anthropi. The products' manufacturer, Dermal Sciences Inc. of Fairfield, Conn., has ceased production until the Food and Drug Administration determines what caused the contamination, FDA and Garden Botanika officials said.

Consumers with questions can call Garden Botanika at 1-800-968-7842.
