NY (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and
Drug Administration (FDA) has reported that Blooming Import Co., Inc. is recalling Golden
Lion brand Ginger Candy because the product may contain sodium saccharin which is not
permitted for use in this type of product. Additionally the ginger candy was
actually preserved citrus fruit peel labeled as Ginger Candy and the label declared sodium
benzoate as an ingredient but did not provide a statement of the preservative function.
This is the first public notice of
this Class II
recall issued by FDA.
Golden Lion brand Ginger Candy, packaged in 110-gram flexible plastic bags.
Hua Feng Food Co., Ltd., Taishan City, Japan.
Blooming Import Co., Inc., Brooklyn, New York (importer), by letter dated February 29,
2000. *Completed field correction (relabeling) resulted from sample analysis and follow-up
by the New York State Department of Agricluture.
*Completed recall: While the FDA has completed
processing of this particular recall, it does not mean this particular product has been
fully accounted for.
Approximately 51 cases were distributed.
