Addtional Flavored Syrups for Espresso Drinks and Italian Ices Recalled

Snohomish, WA (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today reported that Lowery's Specialty Foods Company Inc., doing business as Pasanos' Syrups, is conducting a recall of various flavored syrups for espresso drinks and italian ices, in 12-7 fluid ounce and 25.4-fluid ounce bottles, because the product contain undeclared colors.

The following flavor recalls have been designated as Class III recalls:

Bing Cherry, Blackberry, Boysenberry, Raspberry, Sugar Free Raspberry and Spicy Cinnamon flavored syrups.  These syrups contain undeclared FD&C Blue No.1 and FD&C Red No. 40.

Strawberry, Watermelon and Sugar Free Strawberry.  These syrups contain undeclared FD&C Red No. 40.

The following flavor recalls have been designated as Class II recalls:

Chocolate Min, Creme De Cacao, Kahula Almond Fudge, Sugar Free Chocolate and Sugar Free Macadamia Nut.  These syrups contained undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Yellow No. 6, FD&C Red No. 40, FD&C Blue No. 1.

Eggnog and Peach.  These syrups contained undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Yellow No. 6, and FD&C Red No. 40.

Pineapple.  This syrup contained undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Yellow No. 6.

Huckleberry.  This syrup contained undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Blue No. 1, and FD&C Red No. 40.

Banana.  This syrup contained undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5 and FD&C Red No. 40.

Creme De Menthe and Lime.  These syrups contained undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5 and FD&C Blue No. 1.

Kiwi.  This syrup contained undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5.

Creamy Orange and Passion Fruit.   These syrups contained undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 6.

According to FDA, there are no identifying codes.  Approximately 2,500 bottles per week were distributed in Washington state, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Colorado and Michigan.

This Class II and Class III recall was initiated by the company, by letter on May 3, 2000, followed by telephone beginning the week of May 22, 2000.  This is the first public notice issued by the FDA.  The FDA has stated that the company has completed all required recall procedures.

People who have allergies to certain foods run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
