Tortilla Products Recalled
WA (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and
Drug Administration (FDA) today reported that La Mexicana Inc. is conducting a recall of
certain La Mexicana brand Green Corn Tortilla products because the products contained
undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5.
The affected products are:
Green Corn Tortillas, 3 dozen per
package, 18 packages per case.
Tri-Colored 4" Corn Tortillas, 3
dozen per package, 24 packages per case.
Tri-Colored Chip, 3 dozen per
package, 24 packages per case.
According to FDA, this recall affects
all listed products with date code of 5/12/00 or prior. The recalled tortillas
were distributed in Washington state and Oregon. The firm estimates that none of the
product remains on the market.
This Class II recall
was initiated by the company, by visit beginning on May 19, 2000, followed by fax.
This is the first public notice issued by the FDA. The FDA has stated that the
company has completed all required recall procedures.
