Philadelphia Candies Milk Chocolate Fruits and Nuts Recalled

Hermitage, PA (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today reported that Philadelphia Candies, Inc., is conducting a recall of certain Philadelphia Candies Milk Chocolate Fruits and Nuts, in 1-pound box, because the chocolate covered pineapple product contains undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5, and the chocolate covered cherry product contains undeclared FDC Red No. 40.

According to FDA, this recall affects all products distributed since January 1, 2000 to May 3, 2000.  The firm estimated that 30 1-pound containers remained on market at time of recall initiation which were distributed in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

People who have allergies to certain foods run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

This ongoing Class II recall was initiated by telephone on May 3, 2000, and provided a placard with correct labeling information.  This is the first public notice issued by the FDA.
