Rosemead, CA (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) today reported that Huy Fong Foods, Inc. is recalling Tuong Ot
Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce, in 28-ounce plastic bottles, because the product is unfit for
food. Some bottles of the product were swollen and appeared fermented.
According to the FDA, approximately
42,000 cases were distributed in Connecticut, Arkansas, California, District of Columbia,
Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Mexico, New York,
Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington state and Canada.
The recalls affects all code numbers
produced between March and July 1999. To identify the recalled product, look
at the FOURTH position of the code and if it is "M", "A",
"W", "X", or "Y", it is being recalled.
This Class III recall
was initiated by Huy Fong Foods, Inc. by letter on September 13, 1999, or by fax on
September 14, 1999. This is the first public notice issued by the FDA. The FDA
states that the company has completed all required recall procedures.
