Minute Maid Recalls Premium Orange Juice for Mold

Houston, TX (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today reported that The Minute Maid Company is recalling certain 64-ounce, 96-ounce, and 120-ounce containers of their premium orange juice because the products may be contaminated with mold.

The recalled products, manufactured by Superstore Industries, Turlock, California, are:
a) Minute Maid Premium Orange Juice, Original
b) Minute Maid Premium Orange Juice, Country Style
c) Minute Maid Premium Orange Juice, Calcium Rich
d) Minute Maid Premium Orange Juice, Orange Passion
e) Minute Maid Premium Orange Juice, Orange Tangerine
f) Minute Maid Premium Orange Juice, Pulp Free.

According to the FDA, over 339,000 cases were distributed in California and the Pacific Northwest including Alaska, Utah.   The firm estimates none remains on the market.

The recalled 64 oz. packages bear a the codes "(date code)S(time code)A" or "(date code)SI(time code)B."

The 96 and 128 oz. packages bear the code of "(date code)SI(time code)." 

The recalled date codes are between SEP 22 and OCT 21.

This Class III recall was initiated by The Minute Maid Company by visit beginning on September 23, 1999.   This is the first public notice issued by the FDA.  The FDA has stated that the company has completed all required recall procedures.
