Company Recalls Stop & Shop Chocolate Mini Cupcakes and Iced Angel Cake for
Boston, MA (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) today reported that Stop & Shop is recalling the company's brand
of Mini Cupcakes and Iced Angel Cake because the product contained undeclared color
The recalled Stop & Shop
Chocolate Mini Cupcakes (Iced with Jimmies) were sold packed in plastic packages with 12
cakes per package. These cakes bear the UPC Code 02000-04440, and were sold at Stop
& Shop retail bakeries prior to 12/29/99.
The recalled Stop & Shop Iced
Angel Cake were sold packed in plastic packages and were sold at Stop & Shop retail
bakeries prior to 11/23/99.
Both products contain undeclared
FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Yellow #6, FD&C Red #3, FD&C Red #40, and FD&C
Blue #1. The recalled Angel Cake also contains undeclared FD&C Blue #2.
According to FDA, these products were
distributed in Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The firm
estimates none remains on the market.
This Class II recall
was initiated by Stop & Shop by E-mail on December 29 and November 23, 1999.
